Woolbloc sheep wool insulation is a safe, natural, healthy and environmentally friendly thermal & acoustic building insulation alternative made from NZ pure virgin or recycled sheep's wool for national and international environmentally friendly builders, architects and home owners.

Woolbloc is now manufactured by Fibre Bonding Ltd a global leader in advanced resin bonding technology. WoolBloc is sold under the Latitude brand. For more information please refer to Latitude Insulation

  • Woolbloc is new generation energy-efficient technology in wool insulation manufactured from pure NZ virgin or recycled wool and is suitable for use in both new and refurbishment of buildings.
  • Our unique NZ sheep wool insulation is a superior insulation treated with boron compounds to resist attack from rodents, insects, mould and fungi.
  • Woolbloc eco-friendly, green, wool insulation contains absolutely no toxic formaldehyde or carcinogens. Woolbloc is safe to handle and install without the need for safety wear, unlike other insulation products - including fibreglass which requires protective clothing and masks to install.
  • Our Woolbloc wool insulation is a significantly more effective insulator eliminating moisture by absorbing humidity from the environment, which typically occurs in everyday situations.
  • Our natural sheep wool insulation has an exceptionally low impact on the environment. Woolbloc dramatically reduces noise transmission through floors and walls. Producing Woolbloc is more energy efficient than manufacturing of synthetic insulation's including fibreglass.
  • Woolbloc is a unique process of resin bonding that uses no synthetic fibres. Woolbloc has a range of thermal & acoustic building products that comply with the NZ building code, specifically manufactured for home owners who prefer living in a healthy and less toxic environment.

Health & Safety

Wool Bloc™ insulation is a healthy and safe alternative to synthetic materials. It does not produce toxic fumes and can be used without special precautions, and unlike fiberglass insulation, you don't need a mask or gloves to handle Wool Bloc™.

Kind to the environment

Wool Bloc™ products are made of natural fibres that come from fully renewable resources.
Wool Bloc™ is biodegradable and contains no permethrin, pyrethroids, pesticides or formaldehyde. At the end of its useful life, Wool Bloc™ can be recycled for other environmentally friendly applications.

Fire Resistance

Wool has higher fire resistance than cellulose and cellular plastic insulation's; it odes not burn rather melts away from an ignition source and extinguishes itself. Wool Bloc™ is treated with a fire-proofing agent to improve its intrinsic fire resistance and comply with AS1530.3-1989 (Spread of Fire) achieving results of zero for ignitability, spread of flame and heat evolved.

Wool Bloc™ is insulation made from sheep's wool. It is suitable for use in both new-build and refurbishment projects. Manufactured from pure wool using technology originally developed in New Zealand.

Formaldehyde Absorption

Wool Bloc™ is capable of absorbing large amounts of the formaldehyde commonly found in most buildings with chipboard flooring. Tests carried out by the Central Testing Facility, Tokyo, Japan found that when an extremely high level of formaldehyde was released into a chamber Wool Bloc™ was able to absorb 96% of the formaldehyde within seven hours. This capability is a factor unique to natural fibers.

The Process

Like many innovative ideas, the process is simple. The raw materials are carded through a carding machine, and the resultant web is processed through an automatic resin blending plant, which applies the resin uniformly throughout the product.

Once the resin has been applied, the product passes through an energy efficient oven in a single pass (in which it is cured) and the process is completed with custom cutting using a guillotine programmed from the central console.

The bonding of each fibre occurs at each junction throughout the complete product, whereas thermal bonding using polyester will only bond over 20 - 30% of the area of a similar product.

The ability to use a variety of fibre types and resins offers considerable potential to manufacture a substantial number of related products that maybe used for thermal insulation, air conditioning, bedding, acoustic and high density ceiling products.

Installation in roofs

Install Woolbloc between the rafters of ceiling joists, using sufficient to fit tightly without gaps. Alternatively, Woolbloc can be laid over the joists when the spaces between them are already filled and there is no risk of the material being compressed by foot traffic. Woolbloc should overlap the wall insulation to avoid thermal bridging at the eaves.
